Generic Diapers

By mel - Posted on 31 December 2008

It's a new year and the GRE is behind me so guess what I want to talk to you about? You got it, generic diapers. Well, it's on my mind and you know how I like to share that kind of thing.

There are times in a mother's life when she has to cut corners due to budgetary constraints. Yes, even when it comes to diapers. Obviously this is something she needs to be very cautious about. You buy the tiny package first to test them out then you continue your research with a big value box assuming the el cheapos pass the initial test.

I've tested Walmart, Kroger, and Target diapers. I had heard so many moms praise Target diapers that I thought they were going to change themselves. Um, no. And, they get very lumpy when wet. Thumbs down from this mom to Target diapers.

Walmart diapers have good absorbency but the velcro tabs don't hold very well. I'm not fond of diapers that fall off the streaking toddler so Walmart diapers failed my test.

Kroger diapers are the winners for the generic diapers in my book. The diapers are absorbent, lump free, and the leg ruffles hold "stuff" in.

However, I have a major gripe with all the generic diapers. None print the size on the diaper. It's very possible that is how they save money to offer a less expensive alternative. I can understand that but I'm going to stop buying all generic diapers because I have 1 child in size 5 and 1 child in size 3. Surprisingly it's hard to tell them apart when looking at a single diaper. I have to compare diapers each time to decide which is bigger before I can diaper the bare tush.

So, what to do? Simple, I'm going back to Luvs. They are inexpensive and meet all my requirements.

I'd luv to read your opinion so feel free to comment if the mood strikes.

It is so funny cause I too was all about which were ok generic diapers. I liked Kroger and Walgreens. Used the walmart ones from time to time. I guess it depends what you like in a diaper. lol Did I just say that.

Example kevin bought some new pull up he likes them I dont cause I think they make a funny sound when Hay walks like it is wet but its not.

Thanks for letting me share. I too heard how great Target ones were I didnt have that feeling. I didnt like Luvs but liked Huggies ok.

Hey Mel! I haven't commented on your blog in a long time, and I think we've only met once - at one of the first Meetups last summer. Anyway, I wanted to extol the virtues of cloth diapers. Other than the freebie disposables we got from the hospital, Zachary has been in cloth all his life. I love them! There's an initial investment (money-wise) to purchase them, but after that, you don't have to buy them again! (Until you need the next size, but you can save up in the meantime). Yes, you have to wash them yourself, because there's no diaper service in Nashville, but it really isn't that bad. And there's a "saving the environment" angle, if you're into that. If you're interested in learning more, I recommend you start with the Diaper Pin forum (http://www.diaperpin.com/home.asp). There's a link to "How tos and FAQs" at the top. Otherwise I can answer any questions you have
