Mommy Babble - Baby Fever
Every Thursday is going to be Mommy Babble. I’ll just fill in a little background this time. I’m 36 years old and I never intended to be a mom at all. I started going the other way when I was 33. It had become clear that I had found my soul mate and at the same time I began to feel the need to add another piece of him to the universe. I realize how dramatic that reads but if there is anything in life worth a little drama it’s a discussion about adding life to the world.
Cut to now, our baby Jensen is 7 and a half months old and preparing to make me chase him around the house any day now. The day before he turned 7 months old he cut his second tooth. That evening he rolled from his back to his tummy for the first time. By morning he was rolling from back to tummy and back again every few minutes. It’s two weeks later and he digs his knees into the floor and propels himself forward. He’s still rather awkward with his arms. He has been getting up on his hands and knees then rocking back and forth but he has not begun to move forward from this position. It’s amazing how incredibly fast the process has been. I’m about to get a great deal of enforced exercise! The wall plugs have already been filled with safety seals and I’m ready to go buy a gate to block off the hall.
People always say they grow up too fast. The baby years are gone in the blink of an eye. In the first 6 to 10 weeks I would have asked “When? When does it flash by?” But after I recovered my mind (read when my hormones became manageable), I got some sleep, and felt like my body was almost mine again I began to see it. These precious days are just slipping through my fingers. The woman that once professed that her cats would be her babies and she would never ever have a child now has baby fever and is looking forward to taking this ride again. Maybe I can appreciate those first 6-10 weeks a little better the next time knowing the joys that await me.
